Otaru East+West Hemispherical Ceramic Bowl – Bronze to Black Mineral Glaze

There is something ancient and entirely contemporary about the Otaru bowl. Its hemispherical form — a perfect half-sphere, low and grounded — draws from the Song dynasty tradition of small bronze feet and refined vessel shapes, reinterpreted through a modern minimalist lens. The result is an object that feels both timeless and of this moment.

The glaze is where the Otaru truly distinguishes itself. Crafted from heat-resistant clay and finished with a natural mineral ore glaze, the surface transitions from warm bronze to deep black through a process fired at 1360°C. One year of R&D by expert ceramicists went into perfecting this technique. No two pieces are identical — the variation in tone and surface is not a flaw, but the signature of the process itself.

The Otaru series is designed by SUNs, a Red Dot Award-winning Chinese designer, in collaboration with Element Accessories — a studio dedicated to merging European and Chinese expertise in design and production. A piece from this collection was selected for the innovation competition at Maison & Objet 2022.

Use it as a decorative bowl on a dining table, sideboard, or shelf. It holds its own as a standalone sculptural object, or pairs beautifully with other pieces from the Otaru and Ulfur collections.

Hand wash recommended to preserve the mineral glaze finish.
